i like this

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

i don’t necessarily agree with everything 10/gui suggests in their look into the future of multi-touch computing, but i do like the way they take a fresh and somewhat uninhibited re-take on how to interface with the computer.  i agree that things need to change, we have been dealing with the keyboard and mouse for way too long and there is a built up desire for something new and cool.  touch devices were pretty much crappy for the longest time and then the iphone came out and touch/multi-touch took off!  we need someone to step up and take that step into a new realm of interfacing possibilities.  but, 10/gui, i like where your heads at, keep it up!

google’s data center

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

one of google’s many secrets has always been their data center and server infrastructure.  how do they deliver such amazing performance from their computing infrastructure so efficiently?

well, for the first time google has opened their data center doors and given the public a look at some of their unique configurations that make it possible for google to deliver that .3 second search query.

having worked in a data center for a brief period of time i have learned a few of the basics regarding data center design, flow, and principle and the things google are doing are very innovative and pretty cool for a geek like me.

check out some of the details here.

then watch this video below that takes a dive into a cheap google server (no frills here…the coolness is in the lack of frills!):

i’ve had a nice little break…

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

i say i have had a nice little break.  what i mean by this is that i had some down time in regards to website creation…but i am back to it this weekend!  adding more delicious looking images to monkey bread bakery, an update to whitten grey after their big launch a couple of weeks ago, and a potential new client are what will be keeping me busy.  so its back to the grind!

even though i have had a break from the codin’ that doesn’t mean i haven’t been busy doing other things.  we are really closing in on the wedding so things are getting real hectic! exciting things!

new gallery on monkey bread

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

i recently was doing some work on monkey bread bakery and stumbled across a new flash gallery that i replaced the current one with.  i think it turned out quite nicely.  you can check out the gallery here. i got it from airtight interactive.  they have several pretty  slick flash galleries and other flash goodies for that matter that are easy to install and make for a nice effect.

there is another flash gallery that i like to use.  i have used it on itmdesign and on a few sites in the past.  the only down side to this gallery is that if you don’t let all the images on the page load before clicking on one of the images, the flash effect won’t work.  so be careful when using this one.  i can’t seem to find the original site i got this from, but here is a slight variation…here.

whitten grey is now live!

we have put in some hard work on this site and we are really excited about it.  take a look and feel free to leave comments on what you think.

the 4th

Saturday, July 5th, 2008

i worked hard on whittengrey.com all week and am currently taking a break from design this weekend.  although, i’ll probably find my way to the computer sometime tomorrow for some designing.

i am currently working on blogs for both whitten grey and monkey bread bakery.  i am a huge fan of wordpress, i love the admin interface, especially the new (version v2.5.1). i highly recommend it if you are looking for a flexible blogging platform.

on a personal note we went to the memphis redbirds game thursday and enjoyed an excellent fireworks show.  friday we had planned on going to the lake to enjoy the 4th but decided not to go due to rain.  today we are hanging out with the family.  we enjoyed an amazing smoked turkey cooked by none other than doogle…all complimented  by homemade ice cream made by doogle’s wife (my mother)!  good day.  currently we are vegetating in front of the tv for the rest of the day…

happy independence day weekend!

long night of coding

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

i spent the better part of last night coding the framework for http://whittengrey.com

i got alot done but I am paying for it today…i can barely keep my eyes open.  i’ll be back at it tonight though.  fortunately we have to meet with the wedding photographer today (yes, i am getting married…the blog is new, so don’t worry you will hear more about the wedding then you will every want to hear in the coming months).  this will at least pry me away from the lcd some today.

whitten grey + derok design

Monday, June 30th, 2008

i’ll be working with a couple of amazing interior and clothing designers on their new line’s website.  the cooler part about this is they happen to be family.

check out http://whittengrey.com regularly to see the progress.  right now its a coming soon splash page…but we should have new content out there as early as next week.

i’ll primarily be doing slice and flash work.  since i am working with designers they have already done the layout work…of course.  and i do have to say it looks really good.  i think with their design and my clean code this site is going to turn out amazing!

*notice the glass on the home page has been elevated to a full status due to the rush on the site creation.
